Citations

An answer with no sources cannot be checked, and an answer with sources the writer picked after the fact cannot be trusted much more. If you are going to put a claim in a paper, a report, or an argument, you need to know where it came from and be able to go there yourself. Pelorus writes its AI answers only from the results of your own search.

Where the Sources Come From

The AI Synthesis card is written from the results your search returned and nothing else. The model is given those results and cannot cite a page that was not among them. Under the answer, numbered sources point back to those results. Pelorus assigns each citation to the claim it supports by measuring how much the two overlap, so the citations are not the model's to invent.

Tap a numbered source to open it. The result it points to is the same one you can find in the Unified list.

Pelorus Cross-Check

At the end of every answer, Pelorus Cross-Check says which of its claims were found by more than one engine on its own, and which rest on a single source. Pelorus does the counting. The model only puts it into words. The counts answer the question one search engine cannot: whether the answer holds up.

If more results arrive after the note was written, the note dims and offers Refresh, which recounts the same claims against the results as they now stand. Nothing is sent to the model again. Pelorus Cross-Check has its own switch under Settings > Search > AI Provider.

Complete Citations

A source as it arrives from a search is a title and an address. A citation needs more: who wrote it, when, and where it was published. Tap Complete Citations under an answer and Pelorus looks up each page's author, publication date, and site name and writes the citation out in the style you chose. The card then says how many sources were completed and how many publish no author or date.

The style is Citation Style under Settings > Search > AI Provider: Chicago, APA, or MLA. Look Up Citation Authors and Dates, in the same place, is the switch that allows the lookup. Each lookup fetches the page once from your device, which Privacy and Security explains.

Citations in a Pelorus Insights Interpretation

What It Might Mean, the interpretation under Pelorus Insights, is written from the facts Pelorus counted and the addresses of the top results, with no titles or snippets. It reads differently from a synthesis and does not carry numbered sources. The counted facts above it are what you should rely on.
