Engine Status
This page is about Unified Search only.
Every engine below is available on its own inside Pelorus. You can search any of them, any time. A few occasionally answer with a verification check instead of results; the card says so. What this table tracks is how each engine is doing right now: working with no known issues, working with known constraints, or blocked.
Status as of 8 October 2026.
| Engine | Feeds Unified | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| arXiv, working | Feeds Unified Search | A research index shown as its own card; papers it shares with a web engine count as real agreement. |
| Bing, working | Feeds Unified Search | Its own index. |
| Brave Search, working | Feeds Unified Search | Its own index. Brave occasionally answers with a verification check instead of results; the card says so. |
| Crossref, working | Feeds Unified Search | A research index shown as its own card; papers it shares with a web engine count as real agreement. |
| DuckDuckGo, working | Feeds Unified Search | DuckDuckGo shows Bing's results, so in Unified Search it and Bing count as one index, not two. |
| Google, working | Feeds Unified Search | In a private session Google hides where each result leads behind a redirect; Pelorus follows those to find the real page, and the few it can't identify are listed without an agreement count rather than guessed. |
| Hacker News, working | Feeds Unified Search | Shown as its own card; it returns its own pages, so it adds results to Unified Search but never adds to a page's agreement count. |
| Internet Archive, working | Does not feed Unified Search | Internet Archive items carry no identifier that web results also carry, so Pelorus can't confirm when two results are the same thing. Matching on titles alone would show agreement that isn't there, so Archive results stay on their own card. |
| Kagi, constraints | Does not feed Unified Search | Kagi asks for a verification check before it will return results, and whether it asks is inconsistent from one search to the next. Pelorus can't count an engine toward agreement when it may or may not answer. Kagi also draws part of its results from other indexes without identifying which, so counting it as a separate source would overstate how much agreement a result really has. Kagi results appear on their own card. |
| Marginalia, working | Feeds Unified Search | A small index of the non-commercial web, so expect few results by design. Measured 11 Sep at 96% over 50 searches (48 of 50 pages readable, ten results each). Its percent-encoded links are decoded before matching and count against other engines' copies of the same page. |
| Mojeek, constraints | Does not feed Unified Search | Mojeek asks you to pass a verification checkbox before it returns results. Until that happens there are no results to merge, so Mojeek results appear on their own card rather than in Unified Search. |
| OpenAlex, working | Feeds Unified Search | A research index shown as its own card; papers it shares with a web engine count as real agreement. |
| Startpage, working | Feeds Unified Search | Startpage serves Google's results, so it and Google count as one index in Unified Search. |
| Wikipedia, working | Feeds Unified Search | Shown as its own card; it returns its own pages, so it adds results to Unified Search but never adds to a page's agreement count. |
- WorkingNo known issues.
- ConstraintsThe engine operates with known gaps or limitations.
- BlockedThe engine is not usable in any form.
Results Look Wrong?
Most surprises come from one of these.
A card says the engine wants to verify you're human. The engine served a verification check instead of results. Pelorus never retries these on its own and never passes them for you. Pass the check on the card. Results that arrive after a check stay on that engine's card.
The Unified Search list is shorter than the engine cards. That is the point of it. Duplicates collapse into one entry, and only engines whose pages Pelorus can read are ranked. The info button on the Unified card lists which engines counted, which contributed without counting, and which stayed on their own cards.
Some Google results have no agreement count. Google hid their destinations and Pelorus couldn't identify them. They still appear; they just can't be matched against other engines.
Fewer engines ran than you turned on. Without Pelorus Unlimited, a search fans out to a limited number of engines at once. A shortcut or Search Using still reaches any single engine. See the FAQ.
A page you tapped shows a cookie or consent wall. That wall belongs to the website, not the engine. Answer it or go back; Erase clears whatever it set.
An engine that used to work returns nothing. Engines redesign their pages without notice, and Pelorus has to catch up. The Unified card says which engines returned nothing it could read. If it stays that way for more than a day, tell us which engine and which query.
